Huatulco is nine bays and more than thirty beaches, and it is easy to spend a week without leaving the sand. If you want more than that, these are the things our guests come back talking about.
The waterfalls
Inland from the coast the land climbs into coffee country, and the rivers there run over a series of falls with pools you can swim in. It is the excursion we recommend most often — a real change of scene from the beach, and cooler air once you are up there.
Tours run from Huatulco as half or full days, usually combining a few falls with a stop to eat. Bring shoes you can walk in and do not mind getting wet. Ask us and we will point you at whoever is running trips when you visit.
Pickleball
There is a real pickleball scene here. PKB Academy, based at Las Brisas, runs camps, clinics and private lessons with coaches, and organises boat and waterfall excursions alongside the courts. It works on booked sessions rather than turning up unannounced, so get in touch before you travel if you want court time during your stay.
They group players by rating, from beginner upward, so it works whether you have played for years or are picking up a paddle for the first time.
The bays, by boat
Several of the nine bays have no road to them, which is exactly why they are worth seeing. Boat trips leave from Santa Cruz, roughly a 9-minute drive from the villas, and most run a circuit of the bays with swimming and snorkelling stops.
La Crucecita in the evening
La Crucecita is roughly a 7-minute drive away and it is where the town actually lives — the market, the church on the plaza, and most of the restaurants. It is the easiest evening out from Arrocito, and a short taxi ride home afterwards.
Doing very little
Worth saying plainly: the most common way our guests spend a day is the beach in the morning, the pool through the afternoon, and dinner on the terrace. Playa Arrocito is about 500 m, a walk of roughly 6 minutes from the door and it stays quiet even in high season. Not every trip needs an itinerary.
