Huatulco Airport to Playa Arrocito: How to Get There

It is about 22 km from the terminal to Playa Arrocito, and roughly a 23-minute drive. Here is how to cover it, and whether you need a car once you arrive.

The short version

Huatulco’s airport sits west of the bays. Playa Arrocito is east of them, so you drive past Santa Cruz and La Crucecita on the way in. It is about 22 km and takes roughly 23 minutes on good road. There is no train and no direct bus to Arrocito, so you will be arriving by car of some kind.

Your options at the terminal

HUX is small. You walk out of arrivals into a single line of transport desks, and the whole building takes about a minute to cross.

• Authorised airport taxi. Buy at the desk inside the terminal, before you step outside. You pay a fixed price for the zone rather than haggling at the curb, which is the simplest option after a long flight.
• Pre-arranged transfer. Book ahead and someone meets you with a sign. Worth it for late arrivals, or if you are travelling with children and luggage.
• Rental car. The desks are in the same hall. Useful if you plan to explore the other bays or drive inland; less useful if you intend to stay around Arrocito, where you can walk to the beach and taxis are easy.

Whichever you pick, agree the fare or confirm the booking before you set off. Ask for Villas del Pacífico Sur, El Arrocito — it is a known gated community, and drivers recognise the name more reliably than a street address.

Do you need a car once you are here?

Probably not. Playa Arrocito is about 500 m, a walk of roughly 6 minutes from the villas. La Crucecita, where the shops, market and most restaurants are, is roughly a 7-minute drive. Playa Santa Cruz and the marina are roughly a 9-minute drive. Both villas include on-site parking if you do rent one.

Taxis are the usual way to get around. A ride into town runs around 100 pesos as of August 2026, though fares move and it is worth confirming on arrival. Agree the price before you set off — that is normal here, not rude.

Arriving after dark

The road is paved the whole way and the drive is straightforward, but the last stretch into the residential streets around Arrocito is unlit in places. If your flight lands late, a pre-arranged transfer saves you negotiating that in the dark on your first night.
